In the shadow of a cactus

Thick as pea soup hot air clings to my skin
burning like a thousand needles.
Over Exposed
cooling moisture beads up on my head
drying out my mouth.
Salty and parched
my body seeks shade
under a skinny sticker bush.

  1. Eee...skinny sticker bush? Not a good place to find shade, methinks. Sigh...the alter ego of the beautiful desert.

  2. It is so hot here I don't even go to my swing right now. The other night thought I would go out there about 10 PM and it was still 93 outside. Today is rainy, hope it cools things off at least for a day or two. Love Hugs and Blessings

  3. you've captured it. reminds me of the beginning of the book Lonesome Dove. No shade - just unforgiving heat.

  4. Gotta be careful in this heat! You've evoked the scene perfectly, Gemma. :)

  5. That's a beautiful cactus Gem. I don't see much shade tho. You must be a teeny, tiny little fairy girl to fit under there. I dont even go out unless I have to becuz of the heat right now. What EVER would we do without A/C and swamp coolers?
