Some stay here. Some keep going south.
For Thanksgiving the birds feasted on bird seed,cracked corn,and leftover biscuits.
We've had White wing doves, Eurasian collared Doves, English Sparrows, Mockingbirds, Wood peckers, Cowbirds, Thrashers, Starlings, Grackles and Pigeons to name a few.
For fun we have an Ornithology book to look up species we don't recognize.
A Hummingbird also came in and lingered a while. We do have some resident Hummingbirds and always leave sugar water out for them. They are a treat to watch.

ReplyDeleteI love this post! So beautiful my friend. Not many birds around here, the blue jays have long gone. Just some crows but I do see mallards from time to time.
ReplyDeletedamn white cockatoos here at the moment.. the larrikin of the australian bird life.. if people feed them and then stop the darn birds start eating houses, fences and pergolas!!

Our feeded draws only house fiunches, blacked eyed juncos and house sparrows during winter. Other birds are magpies turtle doves and of ocurse we still have hawks and the owls are back in our yard. I have heard them hooting on severeal occasions. I do love my birds. Love the painting.

ReplyDeleteI love this painting! We don't have many birds now that it's turned cold but in the summer we have lots. I love waking up to the sound of birds singing.
ReplyDeleteWe did have several quail last week. It was the first time we've seen them around here. There were two on our back fence and then later I saw about 10 - 12 in the neighbor's yard!
We have the birds that hang around all year, like Carolina wrens, chickadees, crows, bluejays, nuthatches, owls, cardinals, plus some newcomers who'll overwinter with us, like Canadian Geese. We lost our robins and hummers, goldfinches and bluebirds, though. :( But we'll see them again soon enough -- with more appreciation for them, too.
