Taking the gentle path

Some times I wonder why a person of my age is still taking baby steps.
Doesn't it seem that by now I'd have arrived at exactly where I want to be?

Then I remember.....
When we make art
We always have to start new.
We are creating something that isn't here yet.
It's new...Its just beginning....we take baby steps....or no steps.

So I toddle along my path...

With gratitude for the good days
and
trying to be gentle with myself on those days
where there's little movement.

  1. First of all, you are way, way beyond baby steps, my friend.

Second, fallow times will serve you well. Even though you think there is nothing going on, there is, deep inside, percolating away.

  3. Yes.

I think each person lives in a spiral of experience. The same things come around and around, and each time they do, we see them differently, through our most recent experiences, but also remembering the past ones. It's like we have one clear message that we hear through our life.

    And it's good.

  4. Gemma, with all that is within your heart and your spirit, I can assure you that you are not taking baby steps. Wouldn't life be boring if we were "where [we] want to be?" Nothing left to strive for, no lessons to be learned? Just be you, Gemma, for you are wonderful.

  5. I think baby steps as you are calling them are fun and good. I would be so bored if I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life. Then what would be the point of trying and learning new things, taking those baby steps as you call them. Just think of all the people we would not have met if we had not taken baby steps into this web we have joined in this world wide web. Love Hugs and Blessings

  6. You'll never arrive where you think you want to be, because when you get there, there is always more to seek.

Awesome cactuses...um, or is it cacti? Anyhow, beautiful! xoxoxo

  7. Kudos to you, dear friend, for having the humility and determination to always keep learning, to keep taking baby steps even when your skills are so beautifully developed in other areas. There is a kind of poise that comes from the mere *being willing,* I think, and you have that in spades. If there's an art to being an artist, surely it's partly made of this. :)

What beautiful photographs! That first one is riveting.

  8. I like the spiral idea. We go back to the beginning over and over again. I think we also need those quiet days to balance out the crazy and exciting ones. Wishing you peace today.

  9. Rosebuds seem to be motionless to our eyes - yet they're opening little by little, day by day. Each day they're changed ever so slightly, a petal unfurled here or there - even though it might be barely noticeable to our eyes - till one day we awaken to see they've finally opened into full glorious bloom.
(Though really they were quite beautiful every day, at every stage, from budding to blooming...)

  10. ...at least, that is what I tell myself every other day or so, when I wonder why I still haven't moved very far after half a century or so...
    :)
